The oft-said maxim ‘Mother is god’ (Matrudevobhava) is absolutely true. Mother’s love is selfless. There have been innumerable instances of rare kinds of motherly affection and love.
Let us see a wonderful mother in Gadag’s Vasibegumbibi. The seventy year old Vasibegum is a widow and has been looking after her two mentally-handicapped daughters aged 48 and 45. The two daughters (parents Begumbibi-Husainsab Bellary) Merunnisa and Najamunnisa are mentally derailed and live like infants and cannot even walk. Their mother Vasibegumbibi Bellary has been treating and caring them with love. None of her relations have come to her help. Her only anxiety is about the fate of these child-like daughters after her death. ‘It is just horrible to imagine such a situation’ she says with pathos. She has cared them in the midst of utterly difficult situations. Her husband’s death after the birth of her second daughter posed financial difficulties. Then she got a job in Railway on the compensation ground. Doing the job, leaving behind such children was an awful tale. Somehow she managed. She loves her children and treats them affectionately. Her life is a hopeless tale of woes and the thought of future is terribly aghast. Stoically, she is caring and nursing her pitiful daughters with love and affection. Kudos to her, a great divine mother!
Tontad Jagadguru Siddalinga Swamiji of Gadag has extended some help to her and she was recently felicitated at the Shivanubhava program on Women’s Day.
